Ibrahim Ozbolat, assistant professor of mechanical and industrial engineering and co-director of the Advanced Manufacturing Technology Group, a unit of the

UI Center for Computer-Aided Design, will present on 3D printing and its working mechanisms from 6:15-8:00 p.m. June 25, in the Stanley Auditorium, 1505 Seamans Center for the Engineering Arts and Sciences.  The talk is co-sponsored by the Cedar Rapids Section of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers.

Ozbolat will highlight the application areas with special emphasis on medicine, particularly 3D printing of living tissues and organs. During the talk, various sample parts will be introduced and a demo of 3D printing will be provided to the audience. 

3D Printing, the third industrial revolution, is a powerful technique to build objects layer by layer. Due to its ability to manufacture complex objects using wide variety of materials, 3D printing has been used in several areas including space missions, food industry, consumer products, design and architecture, medicine, and automotive and defense industry.
